Flee FM 2 Short Film: Grime Pays Graduates Gain On-Set Experience

In November 2024, a group of Grime Pays graduates gained an immersive experience into the creative industries as they featured in the Flee FM 2 short film. Produced by the Ruff Sqwad Arts Foundation, the project provided young people aged 16-25 of past & present graduates with invaluable hands-on experience, both in front of and behind the camera.

Filmed in North London, the short film serves as a visual extension of the Flee FM concept—blending the gritty, authentic energy of pirate radio with stylised storytelling. With themes rooted in grime culture, identity, and youth expression, the project offered participants the chance to develop their confidence, creativity and professionalism in a real production environment.

From acting and styling to shadowing on-set crew, the young creatives were fully immersed in the process, working alongside established professionals and gaining insight into the world of film and media.

Flee FM 2 continues Ruff Sqwad Arts Foundation’s legacy of platforming emerging talent, but also highlights the importance of accessible, culturally relevant pathways into the creative industry. For the young people involved, this was more than just a film shoot—it was a formative experience and a powerful glimpse into what’s possible.
